Continuous Chevron Appliqué

Is there a person on Earth that doesn't love the a good chevron pattern these days?

First decide how large you want your chevron to be. I started with a 3" strip.
(Since I was doing a pillowcase, I used a 3" x 40" to go around the entire pillowcase.)
Draw a line with a fabric pencil/chalk/marker down the middle of the strip.
After drawing the line in the middle, each half measured at 1 1/2" wide.
This is your number.
Starting at the first edge, mark a line only half in 1 1/2"
Then measure 1 1/2" from the mark, and draw a line on the opposite side of the middle.
Repeat a gazillion times until you have done the entire strip.

Now cut using a pair of scissors into those lines. (But not the center line)

Using your iron, fold and press your fabric into the chevron pattern.

BONUS: If you overlap the folds, you get a continious prairie point!

Using a fabric glue stick (regular glue stick gums up your machine, needle and thread) adhere your strip to the background fabric.

My background fabric was a piece of black cotton (36x40")

Applique your strip down using your favorite applique stitch. I like the blanket stitch, but you could zig-zag or even do it by hand. After completing the applique, hem the pillowcase opening, match your seams and sew around the outer edge to complete your pillowcase. You can use this same technique on quilt blocks, clothes, decorative pillows, wall art, anything!

Voila! I think it looks pretty great with my matching quilt and my Smith's pillowcases.
